Job Openings: Assistant Professor and Associate Professor Positions in Finance

The Business School of the University of Amsterdam is seeking candidates at the Assistant and Associate Professor level for its internationally renowned Finance Group. We welcome applications from excellent candidates in all major finance areas, including asset pricing, corporate finance, international finance and pension finance. Successful applicants will undertake and help coordinate research and teaching in the field of finance broadly defined.

PhD Placement: Worldbank

PhD student Erik Feijen of the Finance Group was hired by the Research Department of the Worldbank. We wish him a great start in Washington.

Conference with Leading Experts on Innovation and Early Stage Ideas

On Monday, 18 December 2006, the Finance Group and the Tinbergen Institute jointly organise an open conference on innovations and ideas at early stage companies with leading experts in the field of innovation and venture capital as well as with representatives from the European Commission.

Englund and Lopez-de-Silanes New Professors in the Finance Group

Peter Englund and Florencio Lopez-de-Silanes were hired by the Finance Group as Professor in Real Estate Finance and Professor in Finance and Governance, respectively. Florencio will also be the Chair of the MBA Program and of the International Masters’ Committees.

PhD Placement: NYU Stern

We congratulate Otto van Hemert for getting a position as Assistant Professor of Finance at the New York University Stern School of Business. Otto defended his PhD thesis at the University of Amsterdam in July 2006.

Western Finance Meetings: Five Papers accepted for Presentation

Five Papers from faculty members of the Finance Group were accepted at the Western Finance Association Meetings 2006. Papers by Paul Sengmuller, Ludovic Phallipou, Lev Ratnovski and Joost Driessen have been presented at this prestigious conference.

Paper at the AFA Meetings in Chicago

The paper on Corporate Governance and the Design of Stock Option Programs by Zacharias Sautner of the Finance Group was accepted for presentation at the American Finance Association Meetings in Chicago 2007.

Nine papers at EFA Meetings in Zurich

A total of nine papers by faculty members of the Finance Group were accepted for presentation at the European Finance Association Meetings 2006 in Zurich! The Finance Group thereby had the largest numbers of accepted papers of all finance departments.

SSRN Ranking: Amsterdam Number 1 Outside the US

The Business School of the University of Amsterdam was recently ranked by SSRN the top business school outside the US in terms of number of research papers downloaded per author. The overwhelming majority of those downloads concern research papers provided by the finance group.

PhD Placement: Bank of England and FMG

PhD student Lev Ratnovski of the Finance Group was hired by the Research Department of the Bank of England and by the Financial Markets Group of the London School of Economics. Lev will move to London in October and we wish him a great start in London.

Recruitment 2006: Three New Assistant Professors

The Finance Group has hired three new Assistant Professors starting this summer in Amsterdam. Ines Chaieb came from McGill University in Canada, Erasmo Giambona from Roger Williams University in the US, and Zacharias Sautner from Oxford University in the UK.
